When
Simpsons-in-the-Strand first opened in 1828 it was not as a restaurant but as a chess club
and coffee house where gentlemen could 'smoke and read periodicals of the day'.
It was not until 20 years later that John Simpson joined the organisation and introduced the practice of wheeling silver-domed trolleys, resplendant with large joints of roast meat, to chess players and carved at their tables to avoid disturbing the match in progress.
This practice continues today although it is the quality of the food on offer, rather than the chess, that attracts present-day visitors to Simpsons.
Paul Moran was headhunted by Simpsons in the summer of 1999 to play nightly at this world famous restaurant and bar. He now has many fans that not only go to Simpsons for the wonderful cuisine, but to also hear Paul's very special solo style.
